Festival of Food
Our family loves to cook. We are happiest when we are in the kitchen either cooking or baking. Years ago, my husband and I argued over who would cook dinner because we both wanted to be in the kitchen. Today, we share duties, since he's retired, he cooks during the week. I cook and bake on weekends. If we are in the kitchen at the same time, then we have very specific recipes we're making, so neither of us is stepping on toes.
When my daughter and son come home for the holidays or for Sunday dinners, we're all in the kitchen. It's the place where recipes are created not read from a cookbook. If we do take a recipe from a book, we alter it so much it rarely looks the same, yet it tastes amazing. The only problem with having such avid cooks, is the critiquing that goes on.
"Are you going to add thyme to that?" or "An herb roux would add depth to the dish, don't you think?"
Our kitchen is where we have created the most wonderful memories. My daughter sat in her high chair as she helped me breadcrumb eggplants. My son learned how to make home made sauce when he was barely old enough to tie his shoes. My husband introduced me to broiled lobsters stuffed with crab meat, calzones filled with olives, anchovy, pasta, and cheese.
Our kitchen is where we laugh, tell stories, and taste the true essence of life.
